General Information

General information

The Organization has changed its status from an association to an intergovernmental organization on 22 August 2024 when the Convention on the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation entered into force.

At its first General Assembly in Singapore in February 2025 it was decided that the standards, recommendations, guidelines, manuals, model courses and other appropriate documents of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities shall be the standards, recommendations, guidelines, manuals, model courses and other appropriate documents of the Organization until replaced or reviewed by the respective organs of the Organization in accordance with the Convention.

While the Committees have continued their work program in the meantime, including the development of new or the review of already existing recommendations, guidelines, model courses and other appropriate documents, most of these documents remain in a version related to the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities.

The technical content of these documents remains valid, though until the document is officially withdrawn or updated by the Organization. The Secretariat is undertaking all efforts to editorially update recommendations, guidelines, manuals and model courses and other appropriate documents in force as those of the Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation. The standards will be changed at the next General Assembly in 2027. However, due to the considerable number of documents affected this editorial process will take time.

In the meantime, all members of the Organization and third parties are encouraged to take notice and act accordingly. The Organization takes no liability for any errors, omissions or outcomes in that regard.
