About the Training

Have you ever been tasked to write a convincing business case for a new AtoN? Or how to ensure your specification is fit for purpose and that you select the right supplier balancing quality and cost?
The Efficient Procurement for Marine Aids to Navigation Managers course provides the answers to these questions and more.

This interactive course equips participants with the essential knowledge and tools to manage AtoN procurement processes effectively — from preparing sound business cases and writing clear specifications to evaluating tenders and managing contracts.
Through lectures, case studies, and practical exercises led by AtoN procurement experts, participants will gain the confidence to make informed procurement decisions that ensure value for money and operational effectiveness.

Learning Objectives

Participants will develop competencies in:

  • Writing a convincing business case for expenditure.

  • Preparing fit-for-purpose specifications.

  • Conducting tender exercises and evaluating supplier submissions.

  • Understanding standard terms, model contracts, and Incoterms®.

  • Identifying whole-life costs, project risks, and linking them to procurement strategy.

  • Managing contracts and reviewing project outcomes;

Location and Dates

The next session will be held in person at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference (OIC) Center, Banjul, The Gambia, from Monday 12 to Friday 16 January 2026 (inclusive).

Targeted audiance

This course is open to all, regardless of prior procurement experience. It is particularly suited for:

  • IALA Level 1.1 certified AtoN Managers.

  • Personnel providing AtoN administrative or technical support.

  • Representatives of AtoN suppliers and service providers.

Registration and Fees

  • Course Fee: €1,000 (includes all lectures and course materials).

  • Fee Waiver: Training fees are waived for government officials responsible for Aids to Navigation (AtoN).

  • Sponsorship: A limited number of sponsored seats are available for eligible participants from public AtoN authorities.

Accommodation

Accommodation and meals are not included.
The Gambia Maritime Administration provides information on convenient and reasonably priced local accommodation, available via the IALA website.

Certificate

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an IALA Certificate of Completion issued by the IALA World-Wide Academy, recognizing their achievement and competence in efficient AtoN procurement management.
